Dolly Parton’s Tribute Special Has Its Lineup: Carrie, Lainey, Ella Langley, Reba and 16 More on One Stage

The CMA’s two-hour live tribute to Dolly Parton airs October 21 on ABC and Disney+ — and the 20-name lineup reads like a map of everything she touched: country royalty, bluegrass virtuosos and Broadway voices, all under one Nashville roof.

The Short Version

When Dolly Parton died on August 25, the tributes came fast — street vigils, marquee tributes, thousands of butterflies at her SongTeller Hotel in Nashville. But the biggest one is still ahead of us. On Monday, the CMA and ABC used “Good Morning America” to reveal the full lineup for “CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton” — a two-hour live television special airing Wednesday, October 21, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+, streaming the next day on Hulu. And here’s the thing: the lineup isn’t just star-studded. It’s a map. Twenty performers, from Hall of Fame peers to bluegrass virtuosos to Broadway voices, all gathering at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. That span — that’s the story of what Dolly Parton actually was.

01 How to Watch It

Mark the calendar first, worry about the couch later. The special airs Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET — two full hours, broadcast live. It runs on ABC and Disney+ in the U.S. and internationally, and it streams the next day on Hulu if the 9 p.m. slot doesn’t work for you.

It’s being filmed before a live audience at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville — a fitting room for it, since Dolly and Belmont have real history together, including the school’s “Dolly U” programming, which brings a student ensemble onto the bill too. Audience tickets were priced at $95 — a nod to “9 to 5” — and sold out quickly through Belmont. Executive producer Robert Deaton is running the show, and the lineup reveal landed Monday on “Good Morning America,” about a month after the special was announced in September.

02 The Lineup Is the Story

Start with the peers — the ones who stood on stages with her back when the hair was higher and the industry was smaller. Reba McEntire, Vince Gill and Ricky Skaggs are Hall of Fame names who earned their place in Dolly’s orbit the old-fashioned way: by living through the same decades of country music she redefined. They don’t need an introduction, and they don’t need a reason. They were there.

Then the headliners of right now — the artists currently holding the arenas and the charts that Dolly built the stage for. Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley and Kelsea Ballerini, plus Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde, cover the full spread of where country music is in 2026: the stadium-filling vocalist, the bell-bottom storyteller, the breakout of the year, and the songwriter’s songwriter. Every one of them grew up singing “Jolene” or “I Will Always Love You” into a hairbrush. Now they get to sing them back.

Don’t sleep on the bands. Lady A, Little Big Town and Zac Brown — three of the biggest harmony acts country has ever produced — on one stage, honoring the singer who made harmony her own language. Add Brad Paisley’s guitar, Lukas Nelson’s outlaw lineage and Darius Rucker, the crossover star who walked through doors Dolly opened, and the bill starts to look less like a lineup and more like a family tree.

03 Bluegrass and Broadway

The bluegrass corner of the bill is quietly the loudest statement of all. Béla Fleck, Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull — the flatpicking aristocracy — sharing a lineup with country radio headliners. This is Dolly the instrumentalist, Dolly the Smoky Mountain girl who could hold her own with any picker alive, honored in the language she spoke first. Ricky Skaggs bridges both worlds, which is exactly why he’s on the bill.

And then Broadway. Kristen Bell and Kristin Chenoweth are the only performers on the bill from outside the country world, and that’s precisely the point. Dolly spent the last two decades of her career everywhere at once — film, theme parks, literacy work, Christmas movies — and a tribute that stayed inside country would have missed her. The Broadway voices say the same thing the bluegrass virtuosos do: she belonged to more rooms than any one genre could hold.

The connective tissue matters too. Amy Grant and Kimberly Williams-Paisley appear as special guests, a Belmont University student ensemble performs as part of the school’s “Dolly U” programming, and the producers promise surprise tributes from friends across the entertainment world — which, for a woman whose phone book reportedly held half of Hollywood, could mean just about anything.

04 The Money Goes Back to Dolly’s Cause

Here’s the detail that feels most like her. The CMA and Belmont University will donate a portion of the proceeds to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which sends free books to children each month — and Disney is supporting the Imagination Library too. The $95 tickets weren’t just a cute “9 to 5” reference; they were fundraising.

In announcing the lineup, CMA CEO Sarah Trahern framed the special as an obligation, not a favor: “As the organization built to serve and celebrate Country Music, honoring her legacy is not just an opportunity, it is our responsibility.” She added that it was the association’s way “of saying thank you, on behalf of every artist, industry member and fan who found a piece of themselves in her music.”

That last line is the whole thesis of the bill. Twenty performers, four generations, country, bluegrass and Broadway — every one of them found a piece of themselves in her music. October 21, they say thank you out loud, live on ABC and Disney+.

20 performers: Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley, Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Carly Pearce, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady A, Little Big Town, Lukas Nelson, Darius Rucker, Molly Tuttle, Ricky Skaggs, Sierra Hull, Zac Brown, Ashley McBryde, Béla Fleck, plus Kristen Bell and Kristin Chenoweth.
