About this creator
Sam "Strippin" Thorne is Twitch's cozy chaos coordinator. The British variety streamer built one of the platform's most welcoming communities — the kind of channel where the games change but the good times don't. His path to it runs through the early golden age of British YouTube gaming, a detour to America, and one of the strangest usernames in streaming.
The name is a whole story by itself. His initials are S.T. Growing up, he played Age of Empires online with friends on MSN, and when he went to claim the username "SThrone," it was already taken. The system offered suggestions, and one of them — "ST_rippin" — stuck. He used it on MSN. Later, when a friend got him into World of Warcraft, the game wouldn't accept underscores, so "STrippin" was born. The lifestyle modeling he did before streaming made people assume the name was a nod to his profession. It wasn't. It was a teenager's MSN handle that refused to die.
Strippin grew up the way a lot of early streamers did: games with friends, school as an afterthought. He did the bare minimum to pass and dropped out of his A-levels, then spent years on odd jobs and traveling before the internet gave him a lane. He started as a volunteer administrator for the Yogscast — the British gaming collective founded by Lewis Brindley and Simon Lane that became the UK's biggest YouTube channel in the early 2010s — figuring the experience might crack open the gaming industry. After about a year, Brindley offered him a paid position on the staff. From there, he started producing his own content: Let's Plays, Minecraft series, the dry, physical comedy of a man who is genuinely, comically strong.
That strength became a running joke with real roots. Strippin is into bodybuilding, and his real-life power became channel lore — the variety streamer who could genuinely wreck you in a gym and then go home and play violin. It's the contrast that makes him: the gentle giant energy, the violin playing, the close-knit family with parents, two brothers and two sisters. His younger brother George Thorne became a professional footballer, playing for West Bromwich Albion — two brothers, two completely different kinds of performance career.
January 2014 brought the American chapter. Strippin moved to the United States to be with his girlfriend Dodger — the creator known as PressHeartToContinue and Dexbonus, a beloved figure in gaming YouTube in her own right — while remaining a Yogscast member. The visa didn't cooperate: by 2015 he was back in the UK, streaming full-time on Twitch, and in December of that year he announced his departure from the Yogscast, on good terms, to go independent. He proposed to Dodger around the same time. She said yes. They married on June 22, 2017, and now have a daughter. The transatlantic love story became the channel's emotional core, and the community that watched it happen never really left.
The content is variety in the truest sense. Minecraft and Dark Souls were early staples — the blocky comfort food and the masochistic masterpiece — but the modern channel bounces between whatever's fun, whatever's new, and whatever the chat wants. Indie gems, AAA blockbusters, horror nights, chill builders: the backlog is infinite, the vibes are constant. YouTube serves as the archive — VODs and past highlights for the people who can't catch the live chaos — but Twitch is home, and the hours are staggering: over 633 hours streamed in a single recent month, a pace that puts most full-time creators to shame.
The longevity is the statement. Surviving and thriving on Twitch for the better part of a decade takes something the algorithm can't fake: authenticity, consistency, and a community that feels like a group chat come to life. The regulars, the rituals, the shared history — Strippin's chat is the achievement, more than any single viral moment. Community game nights, charity fundraising marathons, the crossover episodes with fellow creators: the channel's second act has been as strong as its first, and the Discord keeps the party going off-stream with game nights and movie nights.
The charity work deserves its own line. Fundraising streams for good causes are a staple — the community opening its wallets alongside its hearts. It's the cozy channel with a conscience, and it fits: in a platform built on hype and outrage, Strippin built a home. Kindness, it turns out, is a content strategy. Nobody yells. Everybody's welcome. The games are just the excuse; the community is the content.
What Strippin represents, a decade and change into the experiment, is the streamer's streamer: no gimmicks, no manufactured drama, just a genuinely funny, genuinely kind person playing games with people who like him. From an MSN handle to Yogtowers to a decade of independent streaming, the promise never changed. Pull up a chair. It's always a good time.
