Steve Dangle is hockey YouTube's patron saint of suffering. The Toronto creator's Leafs fandom — passionate, tortured, eternal — became the foundation of the Steve Dangle Podcast Network and one of the most beloved brands in hockey media.
The rants are the legend. Years of Leafs playoff heartbreak, processed live on camera — the Dangle rants are catharsis for an entire fanbase. Every collapse, every miracle, every April: Steve feels it so you don't have to feel it alone.
SDPN is the empire. What started as three guys and a podcast became a full network — shows across the hockey world, the daily grind of the NHL season covered with the fan's perspective the mainstream misses.
The Top 10s are the craft. Meticulous, funny, and sharp — Dangle's video essays on hockey history prove the fandom runs deeper than the rants. The knowledge is encyclopedic; the delivery is pure entertainment.
He's the fan who made it. No press pass pedigree — just a kid from Toronto who loved hockey too much and talked about it too well. The audience built the career.
Previously covers Steve Dangle because the Leafs pain is universal. The puck drops soon — suffer together.
The book and beyond expand the brand. From YouTube to the published page, Dangle's hockey storytelling keeps finding new arenas. The gospel of the game, in every format.
Previously covers Steve Dangle because hockey never sleeps. The season's long — the takes are longer.
The live shows are the communion. SDPN's touring events turn the podcast into a rally — hundreds of hockey-mad fans, the hosts in person, the takes unleashed. The community that formed in comment sections meets in real rooms.
The draft and trade deadline coverage is appointment viewing. When the hockey world holds its breath, Dangle's live reactions are the fan's broadcast — the gasps, the groans, the instant analysis. Nobody processes hockey news like this.
Platforms + audience
Every count stamped with its source and date — real numbers only.
The government name is Steven Glynn, born March 12, 1988, in Toronto. He went to Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute in Scarborough and graduated from Ryerson University — the education of a broadcaster, the destiny of a fan.
The YouTube era started in 2007, when Glynn was nineteen — old enough to have once received a paper cheque from YouTube. Leafs Fan Reaction, the LFR series, became the job: a reaction to every single Toronto Maple Leafs game, regular season and playoffs.
The format is ritual. Shot in a room painted Leafs blue and covered wall-to-wall in hockey memorabilia, each LFR packs 150 to 250 clips into ten to fifteen minutes — screaming about what deserves screaming, calm about what deserves calm, then questions from the fans.
The mainstream came calling. After interning at Sportsnet 590 The Fan — guiding guests from the lobby — he joined Sportsnet in 2014, working behind the scenes before hosting hockey events, producing videos, and writing articles.
The Sportsnet series were appointment viewing: Steve's Dang-Its (bloopers), Steve's Hat-Picks (great plays), Trade Trees (the full archaeology of an NHL trade). On November 22, 2018, he even hosted live TV, filling in on Tim and Sid alongside Sid Seixeiro.
The viral eruption was 2020. The Leafs lost to the Carolina Hurricanes — whose emergency goaltender was David Ayres, the 42-year-old Zamboni driver who works for the Marlies. Dangle's rant — "They lost... TO A 42-YEAR-OLD ZAMBONI DRIVER... WHO WORKS FOR THEM" — cleared a million views across Canada and the U.S.
The book was inevitable. This Team Is Ruining My Life (But I Love Them): How I Became a Professional Hockey Fan landed in 2019 and became a bestseller in Canada — the gospel of the long-suffering Leafs fan, in print.
The podcast network is the empire. The Steve Dangle Podcast with childhood friend Adam Wylde — son of Canadian TV host Marilyn Denis — and Jesse Blake became the Steve Dangle Podcast Network in 2021: 15-plus shows, 24 employees, three studios above Danforth Avenue.
The bet-on-himself moment came in June 2023, when he left Sportsnet after eight years to run SDPN full time. At a moment when legacy media was cutting, the guy who yelled about hockey in a room full of toys was hiring.
The second book keeps the rants coming: Hockey Rants and Raves (HarperCollins) — Mount Rushmore of goalies, GOATzky debates, the most embarrassing Leafs losses ever committed to paper.
The quotes are folklore: "This team is ruining my life." "The Leafs won a thing!" "John Tavares is a Leaf!" "Are you in?" — scripture for Leafs Nation, delivered from that blue room.
