About MrBeast
MrBeast — Jimmy Donaldson — is the biggest YouTuber on the planet: the North Carolina creator who turned stunt philanthropy into the defining content empire of the internet age.
The formula rewrote YouTube. Give away life-changing money, stage impossible challenges, film it all with blockbuster production values: "last to leave" endurance contests, recreated Squid Game sets, private islands, and cash prizes that escalated from thousands to millions. The videos cost millions to make and earn hundreds of millions of views — a scale no creator had attempted before.
The philanthropy is the engine and the debate. Beast Philanthropy's food bank, the wells dug in Africa, the cataract surgeries, the prosthetics — real, documented giving at a scale that dwarfs most charities' marketing budgets. Critics call it content; recipients call it life-changing. Both things are true, and the tension is the story.
The empire expanded everywhere. Feastables chocolate bars in every Walmart, Beast Games on Prime Video (the biggest reality competition ever made), a snack brand, a production company employing hundreds — MrBeast stopped being a YouTuber and became a media conglomerate that happens to upload.
The work ethic is the legend. The origin story — a teenager in Greenville, NC, obsessing over the YouTube algorithm for years, studying virality like a science — became the motivational gospel for a generation of creators. Nobody out-studied the platform; then nobody out-spent it.
Why people watch: it's the biggest show on Earth. Spectacle fans who follow Logan Paul's event-making get the architect here: bigger budgets, bigger heart, bigger everything.
The production raised the bar for everyone. The MrBeast style — every second engineered, every dollar on screen — became the template an entire generation of creators chases, for better and worse. The algorithm bent toward spectacle because he proved spectacle works.
Previously covers MrBeast because the biggest story in content is still being written by him. The next upload is already being built.
The origin story is the motivational gospel of the creator economy. Donaldson started uploading in 2012 at thirteen, and spent years in obscurity doing something almost no one else was doing: studying the YouTube algorithm like a science — analytics, retention graphs, click-through rates — while his peers were just posting. The breakthrough came in 2017 with the stunt-video era: "counting to 200,000" in a forty-hour endurance video, reading the entire dictionary, the "Worst Intros" series that weaponized his platform knowledge. He had reverse-engineered virality, and then he monetized the formula by giving the money away.
The milestones stopped being YouTube records and started being world records. In June 2025 he became the first individual creator to pass 400 million subscribers; on June 12, 2026, live on stream with millions watching the counter, he crossed 500 million — the first human being in history to do it. The secondary channels are empires in their own right: MrBeast Gaming with over 44 million subscribers, Beast Philanthropy past ten million, a network that double-counts nobody but impresses everybody.
The giving scaled with the fame. Team Trees (2019) raised $20 million to plant 20 million trees with the Arbor Day Foundation; Team Seas (2021) did the same for ocean cleanup. Beast Philanthropy donates one hundred percent of its revenue — every ad dollar, every merch sale — to the food bank and charitable operations it documents. The wells in Africa, the cataract surgeries restoring sight, the prosthetic limbs: the videos are content, the outcomes are real, and the debate about which matters more has followed him for years without slowing either.
The controversies scaled too. Beast Games — the Prime Video reality competition that premiered in December 2024 as the biggest reality show ever made, later renewed for a second season — generated a class-action lawsuit from contestants alleging labor violations, with claims against his company and Amazon's production arm still grinding through discovery into 2026. A separate 2026 suit alleged a hostile work environment at Beast Industries. Donaldson has publicly dismissed the safety and harassment claims as blown out of proportion. Whatever the courts decide, the case is already rewriting the legal playbook for creator-led productions: the moment you run a set with a thousand people on it, you inherit studio-era labor law.
The business kept diversifying through it all. Feastables chocolate went from a YouTube merch play to a genuine national grocery brand. The MrBeast Burger virtual-restaurant experiment — launched 2020, ended amid a legal war with its operator — became a cautionary tale about scaling too fast. He got engaged to author and streamer Thea Booysen on New Year's Day 2025. Beast Industries now employs hundreds: producers, editors, translators dubbing every video into a dozen languages, a machine built to do one thing — make the biggest videos on Earth, forever.
Previously covers MrBeast because the creator economy has a king and the crown isn't close — half a billion subscribers, and the next upload is already being built.
