Chris Van Vliet is a four-time Emmy-winning TV host who became professional wrestling’s most trusted interviewer — the man behind Insight with Chris Van Vliet, one of the most recognized wrestling interview shows on earth, and two YouTube channels with nearly 2 million subscribers and more than 2.8 billion views. The Rock, John Cena, Dave Bautista, Chris Jericho, Becky Lynch, Cody Rhodes, Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker, Jelly Roll: when the biggest names in and around wrestling sit down for the real conversation — not the promo, the person — they sit down with CVV. The road there started in Pickering, Ontario, with a 20-year-old who just wanted to be a wrestler.
Christopher Van Vliet was born May 19, 1983, and grew up idolizing wrestling’s larger-than-life characters. At twenty he enrolled in a wrestling school in Toronto; then the practical half of the dream won out, and he chose to finish an honors degree in Communication Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University and chase broadcasting instead. The origin story has the classic grind baked in: during his senior year he cold-called every TV station in town until one gave him an internship, drove sixty miles each way for that job, and worked part-time in the fish department of a mall pet store to make ends meet. Fifteen-plus years later, that internship had become a career.
Canadian television came first: co-hosting Sun TV’s Inside Jam! and MTV2’s 969 back home, then the move south — WOIO in Cleveland, radio on WDOK, and eventually the entertainment reporter’s chair at WSVN in Miami on the nightly show Deco Drive. That gig put him on red carpets at the Oscars, the Grammys, and Cannes, cracking jokes with The Rock, swimming with alligators in the Everglades for a segment, building the reel of viral celebrity moments that proved he could get anyone to relax on camera. It also put him in front of the wrestling audience he’d always wanted: in 2019 he signed with All Elite Wrestling as a backstage interviewer, debuting on the company’s first-ever show on TNT that October. A lifelong fan, calling the action from inside the building — the kid from Pickering had made it to the dance.
But television was the day job; YouTube became the empire. The main Chris Van Vliet channel — long-form sit-downs, vlogs, entertainment interviews — sits at around 854,000 subscribers and over 518 million views. The clips channel, CVV CLIPS, is the quiet monster: 1.27 million subscribers and a staggering 3.26 billion views, one of the most efficient highlight machines in the wrestling space. A single great answer — a wrestler telling the truth about a famous moment, a retirement tease, a shoot comment that becomes a headline — gets clipped, captioned, and shipped to an audience that dwarfs most cable shows. Van Vliet didn’t just build a channel; he built wrestling media’s wire service.
The podcast is the crown jewel. Insight with Chris Van Vliet started as a passion project and grew into what its network calls the #1 wrestling podcast in the world, consistently ranking among the top sports and entertainment shows on Apple and Spotify. In November 2025 it leveled up again: Cumulus Media brought the show into the Cumulus Podcast Network, with distribution, marketing, and monetization under the Westwood One portfolio — the kind of deal that signals wrestling’s mainstream moment as much as Van Vliet’s. The announcement cited the business’s “unprecedented mainstream success,” billion-dollar streaming deals and all. Insight had already outgrown the niche; now it had the machine to match.
What makes the interviews work is the posture. Van Vliet’s style is thoughtful, candid, and humanizing — the release announcing the Cumulus deal used exactly those words, and they’re earned. He asks about mindset and motivation, not just results; he lets a guest finish the story; he does the homework, which in wrestling means knowing the thirty-year-old angle the guest assumed nobody would bring up. Wrestlers are famously guarded with media — the business trains them to protect the illusion — and the reason the biggest names keep coming back to his chair is that he treats the person behind the character like they matter. Trust is the whole product, and his is banked over thousands of conversations.
Off camera, the résumé keeps going. He’s an avid bass fisherman and the co-founder of WOO! Tungsten, the outdoor brand that turned a hobby into a business. He’s a member of the Critics Choice Association. He took the show on the road with a live Insight event at City Winery in New York ahead of SummerSlam. He married Rachel Van Vliet in 2022, and they have two children — the rare wrestling-media figure whose personal life reads as settled rather than chaotic, which might be the most subversive thing about him in this business.
Previously covers Chris Van Vliet because he solved the problem every interviewer in every field is trying to solve: how to get famous people to tell the truth on camera, every week, for years, without burning a single source. Twenty years in, four Emmys deep, with the biggest names in wrestling on speed dial and a podcast network deal to prove the audience is real — CVV didn’t just find the niche. He became the room where the niche talks.

The interview that broke him into the mainstream — Dakota Johnson and Leslie Mann hijack the junket and spend it flirting with the reporter.
